Primary Health Insights is a storage and analytics platform that hosts the de-identified general practice and other primary health data of most of the Primary Health Networks (PHNs) across Australia.
It brings together industry leading data security, rigorous data governance and privacy, advanced analytics and primary health informatics experts from the PHNs to improve population health outcomes for all Australians.
The vision is to use reporting and analytics of primary care data to enable general practice, commissioned healthcare service providers and PHNs to make informed decisions about Australian primary health care delivery.
In time, this national infrastructure asset will also deliver significant support to other non-commercial health related organisations and assist in the delivery of improved population health outcomes, nationally as well as locally.
Primary Health Insights can make an important contribution to the delivery of Australia’s Primary Health Care 10-Year Plan.
A national approach to security
Primary Health Insights represents the PHNs most advanced approach to securing Australia’s primary health care data and protecting the privacy of individuals.
Data driven health service decisions require the confidence of stakeholders that their data is stored securely, governed responsibly and privacy protected. Primary Health Insights has been developed using the following guiding principles:
patient privacy, data and cyber security are critical and a fundamental part of the platform
data governance processes are best practice and fit for purpose
PHNs maintain full control of the data held on the platform.
The platform features multiple layers of security and a comprehensive governance framework. It complies with the Australian Privacy Principles and legislation. The data resides onshore in Australia.
